Now that’s SHOWMANSHIP ! Won’t mind getting this band to play for my next birthday party icon smile Center of attraction

Showmanship – A person skilled at entertaining, theatrical presentation, or performance – Oxford Dictionary

Most of the time, showmanship are deployed to draw the people’s attention towards a reason. Reasons like showcasing to the audience how highly skilled an individual is, it maybe the nature of the band is to entertain the crowd to gain the income needed, it maybe purely the gaining self-satisfaction in the act of showmanship … etc

Regardless of the reason, such showmanship requires a combination of being able to remain entertaining and producing quality music at the same time.

However, it gets a bit interesting as we view this in a different context, whereby the music we created are in a church environment or a small group setting. Controversy may arise as people start to question whether or not showmanship is advisable in this context.
Being a musician, whether we want to or not, people are drawn towards the music we create despite being good or bad. Besides being able to play an instrument, our ultimate purpose should be drawing people’s attention towards God. The methods of what we use varies but the purpose should remain the same.

Do you use showmanship in your church and small group environment ?
